NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team moved to 2-0 in the Conference of New England (CNE), while remaining unbeaten on the season, with a 4-3 victory over Colby-Sawyer on the Kelsey Courts.

The Hawks were able to sweep doubles play, with the team of Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) and Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.) earning a 6-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer's Maria Espinosa Lopez and Isabella Gutierrez Avendaño. The Hawks then earned a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles with Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) and Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) earning a 6-0 win over Payton Dugan and Callie Valeri. The Hawks then closed out doubles play with a win by Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) earning a 7-6 (8-6) victory at the No. 2 doubles spot over Sky Jara and Avery Nielsen.

Heading into singles action, the No. 3 match went in favor of Jara, who tallied a 6-0, 6-4 win over Mancini, leveling the score. The Hawks then saw Dugan earn a 6-0, 6-1 over Abarca to give Colby-Sawyer their first lead in the match. Gutierrez Avendaño then put the Chargers up 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 2 singles spot.

The Hawks battled back, scoring a No. 4 singles win by Bache with a 6-4, 6-3 win ahead of Petroniro, earning a key 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 singles spot. At the No. 5 singles spot, with a win by Palmieri in a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory.

Roger Williams (6-0, 2-0 CNE) will host the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) for a CNE match on Wednesday, Sept. 24, on the RWU Tennis Courts. The Hawks will then take part in the Salve Grass Court Tournament on Thursday, Sept. 25, before rounding out the week at Western New England on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 12:00 pm.

Colby-Sawyer (1-1, 0-1 CNE) will host the University of New England on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 3:30 pm. The Chargers will then take part in the Salve Grass Court Tournament on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 1:00 pm.
