Women’s Tennis: Hawks Sweep Golden Bears to Move to 3-0 in CNE Play

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team went to 7-0 on the season, while pushing their Conference of New England (CNE) record to 3-0, with a 7-0 victory at Western New England.

In doubles play, Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) combined for a 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot, ahead of Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) and Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.), who earned a 6-0 win over Emma Miller and Malina Dinis at the top spot. No. 3 doubles also went in favor of RWU, with Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) and Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) earning a 6-0 win in their match.

Bache took the first point for the Hawks at doubles, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Lauren Bilodeau, while No. 3 singles saw Mancini take a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sydney Shepard. Petroniro sealed the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles over Kayla Ledoux, with the No. 5 match going 6-0, 6-1 in favor of Palmieri.

The Hawks rounded out the win with the No. 2 match of Pecora and Dinis, No. 1 singles match of Abarca and Miller, going 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3, 5-7, 10-7, respectively.

Western New England (1-4, 1-3 CNE) will take on Endicott in a rescheduled match on Monday, Sept. 29, at 3:30 pm. The Golden Bears will then host Rhode Island College on Thursday, Oct. 2, ahead of a road CNE match against Suffolk on Saturday, Oct. 4.

Roger Williams (7-0, 3-0 CNE) will travel to Hartford on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 4:00 pm ahead of a Thursday, Oct. 2, match at Salve Regina. The Hawks will then host the University of New England on Saturday, Oct. 4.
