Men’s Basketball: Hawks Fall to Rams in 82-64 Loss

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team fell to Suffolk 82-64 in a Conference of New England (CNE) matchup on Wednesday evening in Boston. The Hawks held a narrow lead at halftime, but the Rams found their footing in the second half to secure the win.

Roger Williams stayed competitive early shooting 50 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from beyond the arc in the first half, while Suffolk shot 58.31 percent from the field and only 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Suffolk took control after the break, shooting over 53.1 percent from the field in the second half, while keeping the Hawks to 35.7 percent. Suffolk finished with a 44–26 advantage in points in the paint overall and picked up 19 points off of turnovers to Roger's four.

Ashton Leclerc (Gorham, Maine) led Roger Williams with a game-high 23 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the floor and knocking down five three-pointers. Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) added eight points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Ryan Hammarlund (Southington, Conn.) chipped in eight points, four rebounds, and four steals. Philip Sughrue (Winchester, Mass.) anchored the interior with five rebounds and six assists.

Suffolk was paced by James Jones, who scored 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting while adding seven rebounds and three steals. Nick Verdile contributed 16 points and five rebounds, and Harrison Neil added 17 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting performance.

Roger Williams (9-7, 5-2 CNE) will look to regroup before their next game at University of Hartford on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Suffolk (9-6, 5-1 CNE) will look to hang on to their win streak as they travel to Endicott on Saturday, Jan. 17.
