The Golden Bears were the first to strike 3:10 into the second period, as they capitalized on a break heading the other way. After a shot by Nick Palmer (Long Lake, Minn.) was saved on the other end, Western New England started the break heading the way. After a shot by Kyle Walker was saved by Jaslow, Billy VanSumeren was able to pick up the rebound, finishing to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead.

Heading down the stretch of the second period, the Hawks put together a string of seven straight shots in the offensive end over a 1:02 span, but were unable to convert as Volsky held the Hawks without a goal through the first 40 minutes, making 28 saves.

In the third period, the Hawks finally were able to tally their first goal, with 6:07 remaining in regulation, as a blast from Aidan Radic (Castle Rock, Colo.) caught the stick of Daxton St. Hilaire in front of Volsky, that St. Hilaire then tipped by the Golden Bear goaltender.

As the period was coming to a close, the Hawks looked to secure the victory as an initial shot by Clark bounced off the pad of Volsky that Kwak found the rebound, firing a shot over the net, to end regulation.

In the overtime period, the Hawks had a break away opportunity that was saved point blank off the stick of Alger by Volsky, the Golden Bears responded with three shots on the opposite end with Jaslow stopping the flurry.

The ensuing faceoff went in favor of the Golden Bears, as Everest Schneider pulled it back for WNE, finding the pucks way over to Brayden Patricia whose shot was saved by Jaslow, but Patricia was able to pick up his own shot, firing the rebound attempt by Jaslow for the victory.
