Men’s Ice Hockey: Hawks Score Six Goals for First Time in Opening Win of 2026

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Ice Hockey team defeated Framingham State, 6-3, on Saturday evening at Loring Arena as they opened the 2026 side of their schedule in non-conference action.

The Hawks outshot the Rams, 40-33, while each team struck twice on the power play. The Hawks committed six penalties to the Rams' seven, while dropping the faceoff battle, 40-34. Framingham State had 25 penalty minutes in the game, while Roger Williams only had 12.

Colin Kwak (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Christian Worrell (Boise, Idaho) each had two points with a goal and an assist, while Ryan Drust (Middletown, Conn.) led the team with a +3 rating while tallying an assist in the game. Roger Williams saw 10 different players record a point for the Hawks as they took down the Rams, scoring six goals as an NCAA Division III program for the first time.

Eight players recorded points for the Rams, with Cullen Lacey and Grid Kaagan finishing with a positive plus-minus on the evening. Scott Bugarin went 14-of-25 in his faceoff attempts, while Jonas Oesterle went 9-for-18.

In the opening period, the Hawks got the scoring started 9:59 into the game, when Worrell tallied his first collegiate goal, after a save by Jacob Jaslow (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) went off the boards to the right-hand side, and Worrell collected and finished on the other end by the Rams' goaltender. Roger Williams responded a few minutes later with a goal as Worrell again sent a shot from the point, which got deflected into the net after a touch by Drust, and finished by Jacob Kettwig (Chicago, Ill.) for his first goal of the season.

The Rams did not back down, as Framingham State tallied a goal 4:32 later, when Michael Kennedy was able to put away a shot on a power play as a shot was blocked by Roger Williams at the point, rolling to the right side of Jaslow in the neutral zone. The Rams then sent a pass from the point as Devin Shepherd found Kennedy in open ice to the left of Jaslow to finish. With time quickly ticking down, the Rams again were able to take advantage of a power play, as Jake St. Barcelou fired a shot to the right of Jaslow that just squeaked in with 1.6 remaining in the period.

In the second, the Hawks were able to regain the advantage as Jason Tynan (Mesa, Ariz.) picked the puck off the boards behind the net and sent a pass over to JJ Alger (Brewster, Mass.). Alger's shot then was saved initially, but the deflection made its way over to TJ Sullivan (Melrose, Mass.), who finished to the right of Kilgallen for the lone goal of the second period, taking a 3-2 lead into the final period of regulation.

Finishing a power play to start the third, the Rams saw the Hawks tally a goal with 17 seconds remaining on the power play, as Gabe Reis (Tenafly, N.J.) redirected the tip to the point after Cooper St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine) had an assist off the shot. The Hawks had another attempt a few minutes later, which Kilgallen was able to tip away with 17:45 remaining.

With 11:50 remaining the Rams responded, as Jonas St. Oesterie tallied his first goal of the night as a pass by Grig Kaagan connected, after he was collided with by a Hawk on the boards by the RWU bench, that St. Oesterie buried, pulling the Rams within one. The Hawks were able to expand their lead with 8:17 remaining as Aidan Radic (Castle Rock, Colo.) was able to take advantage of their second straight power play goal, expanding their lead to five off a shot from Kwak who fired from the blue line, after playing pass after Daxton St. Hilaire (Lewiston, Maine) sent the pass to Radic.
