Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. — Louis Hawkins (Norwich, Conn.) scored twice as the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Sunday afternoon at Bayside Field.
Roger Williams improved to 7-1-3 overall while extending its unbeaten streak to eight matches. The Hawks recognized their senior class in a pregame ceremony before earning their third consecutive victory. MCLA fell to 1-8-1.
The Hawks held advantages in shots, 27-3, shots on goal, 14-1, and corner kicks, 12-2. Roger Williams controlled 61% of possession and generated 18 shots during the second half.
Hawkins scored his third and fourth goals of the season while placing three of his four shots on target. Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, Mass.) recorded the game-winning goal and finished with four shots, including two on goal.
Senior Ollie Hamilton (North Chittenden, Vt.) led RWU with five shots and placed three on target. Senior Patrick Marino (Middleton, Mass.) added four attempts.
Peyton Luther (Bristol, R.I.) assisted on Hawkins' first goal. Phin Merriam (Haddam, Conn.) and Lucas Luzuriaga (Madrid, Spain) supplied assists on the final tally.
Senior goalkeeper Josh Bates (Plymouth, Mass.) stopped the lone shot he faced to earn the shutout and his first win of the season.
Oliver Le Lacheur made 11 saves for MCLA. Kyle Cardoso led the Trailblazers with two shots, including their lone attempt on goal.
Jastrab opened the scoring at 17:53, finishing an unassisted opportunity for his fourth goal of the season.
Hawkins doubled the advantage in the 35th minute, converting a feed from Luther to give Roger Williams a 2-0 halftime lead. Bates preserved the shutout by denying Cardoso in the 39th minute.
The Hawks controlled the second half, outshooting MCLA, 18-1, and placing 10 attempts on goal. Le Lacheur made eight saves during the opening 34 minutes of the period before Hawkins broke through again.
Hawkins completed the scoring at 78:35, finishing passes from Merriam and Luzuriaga to secure the Senior Day victory.
Roger Williams returns to Conference of New England action against Gordon College on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Bayside Field.
