Men's Soccer: Jastrab, Robbins Score in Opening Half to Lead Hawks Past Gordon

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team scored twice in the first half and held Gordon College to one shot on goal for a 2-0 Conference of New England (CNE) win Wednesday evening at Bayside Field.

Gordon fell to 5-4-2 overall and 2-2-0 in the CNE.

The Hawks finished ahead in shots, 21-5; shots on goal, 7-1; and corner kicks, 8-1. Roger Williams held 56% of the possession and outshot the Fighting Scots, 14-3, during the opening half.

Tyler Jastrab (Townsend, Mass.) scored his fifth goal of the season, while Dylan Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) added his fourth. Louis Hawkins (Norwich, Conn.) and Robbins each recorded four shots and placed two on goal.

Kevin DeCapua (Old Saybrook, Conn.) added three shots, including one on target. Luke McCarthy (Tolland, Conn.), Dylan Thomas (Norwalk, Conn.) and Aidan Jennings (San Diego, Calif.) each supplied an assist.

Goalkeeper Eliot Panaccione (Pepperell, Mass.) made one save to earn the shutout and improve to 4-1-3.

Riley Calemmo recorded five saves for Gordon. Luke Lindas led the Fighting Scots with two shots and placed their lone attempt on goal.

Roger Williams controlled the opening stages, generating three corner kicks and five shots during the first 16 minutes. Jastrab broke through at 17:14, finishing passes from McCarthy and Thomas to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage.

Calemmo made consecutive saves on Hawkins during the 26th and 27th minutes, but RWU doubled its lead at 34:51. Robbins converted a feed from Jennings to send the Hawks into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

Gordon placed its only shot on goal in the 64th minute, when Panaccione denied Lindas to preserve the shutout. Calemmo stopped second-half attempts from Robbins and Jennings, but the Fighting Scots were unable to reduce the deficit.

Roger Williams (8-1-3, 2-0-2 CNE) extended its unbeaten streak to nine matches ahead of traveling to West Hartford, Conn., for a CNE match against the University of Hartford on Saturday, Oct. 10.
