BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University (RWU) Wrestling team defeated Rhode Island College (RIC), 36-11, on Friday evening in a New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual.
The Anchormen opened the dual, as Spencer Buscema (Salem, N.J.) fell to RIC's Domenic Sousa in a high-scoring bout, 28-13 in 6:09 minutes. Caden Bruseo (Brookline, N.H.) started a three-match winning streak, pinning Robert Stone in 2:37. Shaun McLaughlin (Natick, Mass.) then picked up a win over Hunter Lundberg by fall, before Matthew Castillo (Port Washington, N.Y.) secured another five points with a 17-2 win by tech fall to take a 17-5 lead after 149 pounds.
Rhode Island College took a win at 157 pounds, with Constatine Isaac earning a win by fall, before Matt Gish (Cromwell, Conn.) and Gordon Murray (Porter Corners, N.Y.) earned wins by decision, 7-2 and 1-0, respectively. At 184 pounds, Joshua Nieroda (West Suffield, Conn.) tallied six points with a pin in 4:41 over Adain Faria, and Eric Power (Roslindale, Mass.) tallied another three points with a 7-5 win over Imanol Tavares. The final bout of the day went in favor of Michael Toppan (Gloucester, Mass.), who earned a major decision victory over Jaden Tesher, 22-14.
Roger Williams (14-5) will host Johnson & Wales on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7:00 pm. The Hawks will then round out their regular season on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 10:00 at the Futures Tournament at Western New England before taking part in the NCAA Division III Regional Championship on Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, Mar. 1.
