Women's Tennis: Hawks Close Out Season Against Emerson

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Roger Williams University women's tennis team earned a decisive 6–1 victory over Emerson College Wednesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus, sweeping the doubles matches and winning five of six singles contests.

Roger Williams opened the match by capturing the doubles point with wins in all three flights. Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) and Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.) led the way with a 6–0 victory over Teah Login and Anna Matsuura at No. 1 doubles. Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) followed with a 6–2 win against Alisa Pimenova and Jayden Beverly at No. 2 doubles, while Claire Dwyer (Manchester, Mass.) and Annette Carter (Bedford, N.H.) completed the sweep with a 7–5 victory over Amaya Briones and Gianna Di-Reumante at No. 3 doubles.

The Hawks continued their strong play in singles competition, winning five matches to secure the team victory. Bache earned the first singles point with a dominant 6–1, 6–1 win over Pimenova at No. 4 singles, followed by Adriana Palmieri's (Southington, Conn.) 6–0, 6–3 victory against Matsuura at No. 5.

Mancini added another point for Roger Williams with a 6–2, 6–3 win over Abigail Minter at No. 3 singles, while Pecora defeated Briones 6–2, 7–5 at No. 2 singles. Abarca capped the Hawks' singles wins at No. 1, rallying past Login in a three-set match tiebreak, 6–2, 5–7, 10–6.

Emerson earned its lone point at No. 6 singles, where Jayden Beverly defeated Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) in a tightly contested match, 1–6, 6–4, 10–7.

Roger Williams closes out their season at 15-5, going 8-2 within CNE action. The Hawks fell in the opening round of the CNE Tournament.
