The matchup started level, as James Sullivan opened with a goal before the Hawks' Ethan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) put the first tally on the board for Roger Williams. Sullivan added another goal to retake the lead for Mass. Maritime, but Reece Moore (Marblehead, Mass.) connected with McKeown to level the score at 2-2, with 4:19 remaining in the opening frame. Taking advantage of a man-up opportunity, the Buccaneers saw Ryan McDonough put a tally on the board with 3:00 remaining in the first quarter to take a 3-2 lead into the second frame.

Sullivan scored the first two goals in the second period, followed by Cabot, taking a 6-3 lead. Lee then added one for the Hawks, with 5:12 remaining in the half, but a goal by Cabot with 2:30 remaining sparked a six-goal run for the hosts, taking a 12-4 lead with 9:40 remaining in the third quarter.

The Hawks responded with a stretch of their own, scoring seven straight goals, four during the stretch from Lee, that allowed the Hawks to come back to within one with 14:03 remaining. An answer with 11:42 remaining by Vricella allowed the Buccaneers to retake a two-goal advantage, but McKeown and Shelton tallied goals with 3:04 and 1:22 remaining, respectively, in regulation, forcing overtime.

In the overtime period, the Hawks had the ball firing a shot with 2:53 remaining that was saved by Visser, after a successful clear by Mass. Maritime, Vricella fired a shot, making it by Dudley, as the Buccaneers took the win.
