Softball: Roger Williams Rolls Past Chatham to Begin 2025–26 Campaign

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team opened their 2025-26 season with a 14-1 win over Chatham on Friday morning at Hancock Park during Spring Break.

Despite Raegen Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) striking out the first two batters, Chatham stuck first with a solo home run to left by Madi Gorney in the top of the first inning.

The Hawks didn't respond until the bottom of the second, when Grace Forsythe (Woburn, Mass.) kickstarted the Hawks with a double to left field and advanced to third on a throwing error. With Forsythe in scoring position, Madison Moran (Attleboro, Mass.) singled up the middle to bring Forsythe home to tie the game 1-1. RWU kept it rolling as McKenzie Foley (Hanover, Mass.) reached first on an error to move Moran to third. Moran would score on a wild pitch to put the Hawks up 2-1. After walking the next batter, Chatham made a pitching change. The Hawks would score five more runs on three more hits, fielding errors, and passed balls to bring their lead to 7-1.

In the bottom of the third, RWU continued their hot streak collecting four more runs on three hits and three walks to bring the score to 11-1. The Hawks scored three more runs on five hits and aggressive base running, putting them ahead 14-1.

Forsythe went 3-for-3 on the day with three doubles and four RBIs. Lucy Maurao (Holliston, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with two doubles, five RBIs, and a walk, while Adrianna Amaral (Taunton, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Shannon Starratt (Lake George, N.Y.) went 1-for-1 on the day with one walk and two hit by pitches.

On the mound, RWU's Germano struck out seven over 4.0 innings of work, allowing just one hit which came via the solo home run in the first inning. She would secure her first win of the season in the outing. Natalie Lundari (Flemington, N.J.) would appear in relief, pitching 1.0 scoreless innings without allowing a hit. Chatham would manage only one total hit in the game.

Roger Williams' offense racked up 14 hits from nine different batters, including multi-hit performances from Forsythe, Maurao, Amaral, and Hailey Williams (Vernon, Conn.). The Hawks capitalized on baserunning opportunities, seeing multiple passed balls and fielding errors for extra bases.

Roger Williams (1-0, 0-0 CNE) will be back in action in Clermont on Friday afternoon against Hope.
