Softball: Hawks No-Hit Lasell; Starratt Reaches 100 Career Hits

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team picked up a 14-0 win against Lasell University on Monday morning at Legends Way on Spring Break. The Hawks kept Lasell to no hits as Shannon Starrat (Lake George, N.Y.) picked up her 100th career hit.

The Hawks duo of Keira Quadros (East Providence, R.I.) and Sophia Bruno (Sandwich, Mass.) stifled Lasell's offense as the Lasers could not produce a hit in the matchup. Quadros pitched four innings with eight strikeouts and no walks, while Bruno pitched one inning and collected one strikeout.

Quadros opened the game on the mound and struck out the side, before the Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Alexia Tsonis (New Bedford, Mass.) stole two bases to get in scoring position as Starratt singled to bring their first run in of the inning. With Starratt advancing to second on a passed ball, Adrianna Amaral (Taunton, Mass.) tripled down the left first line to bring Starratt around, before scoring on a throwing error.

In the top of the second Quadros collected another three strikeouts, before RWU tacked on three more runs. Quadros, McKenzie Foley (Hanover, Mass.), and Calyssa Moody (West Springfield, Mass.) each singled to juice the bases. Quadros scored on a passed ball to lengthen the Hawks' lead to 4-0, before Madison Tucholski (Massapequa, N.Y.) grounded out to bring home Foley for another run. Tsonis then singled to right and Moody scored to put the Hawks up 6-0 at the bottom of the second.

In the bottom of the third the Hawks offense exploded for six runs, with multiple Hawks seeing extra base hits. An error allowed the first run to score before Moody added an RBI single. Tucholski picked up two RBIs with a double to right, bringing Roger Williams' lead to double digits. Starratt then collected her 100th hit with a two RBI triple to center field, giving the Hawks a 12-0 lead.

The Hawks tacked on two more in the bottom of the fourth, as Foley laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Amaral and Moody hit another RBI single. Lasell could not respond in the top of the fifth, and Roger Williams secured the 14-0 win.

Roger Williams finished with 13 hits in the win. Moody led the way going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Starratt went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Amaral added a pair of hits with a triple, drew a walk, and drove in one run. Quadros helped herself, going 2-for-2 with a walk, coming around to score twice. Tucholski picked up three RBIs with a double and a walk, while Tsonis reached once and stole two bags.

Abigail Fortin took the loss for the Lasers, allowing 14 runs (11 earned) in four innings of work. Fortin picked up three strikeout and three walks in the outing.
