Men's Lacrosse: Hawks Shutout Curry on Senior Day

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team delivered a dominant defensive performance on Saturday afternoon, shutting out Curry 9–0 at Bayside Field, in Conference of New England (CNE) action.

The Hawks controlled the game from the opening minutes, firing off 20 shots in the opening frame, before breaking through midway through the first quarter. Jacob Parenteau (Millville, Mass.) opened the scoring at the 4:59 mark off an assist from Reece Moore (Marblehead, Mass.), and Caleb McKeown (Plymouth, Mass.) followed shortly after with an unassisted goal to give Roger Williams a 2–0 lead after the first quarter.

Roger Williams added to the lead early in the second quarter when Moore found the back of the net on a feed from Thomas Kennedy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), pushing the advantage to 3–0 heading into halftime.

While the Hawks generated plenty of opportunities in the third quarter, Curry's defense held the score steady until the final period. Roger Williams then exploded offensively in the fourth quarter, scoring six goals in a span of just over nine minutes to put the game out of reach. Carter Shelton (Castle Rock, Colo.) started the run with a goal off a pass from Connor Russell (West Hartford, Conn.), followed by a second tally from Parenteau. Goals from David Rizzo (Methuen, Mass.), Ethan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.), Drew LaChapelle (Andover, Mass.), and Nick Cotting (Holliston, Mass.) capped the scoring and sealed the shutout victory.

Parenteau led the Hawks with two goals, while Moore added a goal and an assist. Russell recorded two assists, and Kennedy also contributed an assist in the win.

Defensively, Roger Williams was outstanding, holding Curry scoreless despite 30 total shots, only allowing 10 on target. Aaron D'Aversa (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) anchored the effort in goal, playing the full 60 minutes and making 10 saves to secure the shutout. The Hawks also controlled possession with 40 ground balls compared to Curry's 31.

With the victory, Roger Williams improves to 6–8 overall and 4–2 in CNE play. The Hawks' next game will be at Hartford on Apr. 14 at 7:00 PM. They will then travel to Maine on Saturday, Apr. 18, for a 12:00 pm tilt with the University of New England.
