BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team fell to Endicott 6-1 in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Tuesday afternoon.
Roger Williams opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Devin Driscoll (Portsmouth, N.H.) came around to score on an RBI single by Will Florio (San Jose, Calif.), giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Endicott responded in the bottom half of the inning with three runs. The Gulls tied the game on an error before Brady Rickenbach delivered an RBI single, and another run scored on a fielder's choice to make it 3-1.
The score remained unchanged until the eighth inning when Endicott tacked on a few insurance runs. Brenden Walsh doubled to drive in a run, followed by RBI singles from Rickenbach and James Benestad to extend the lead to 6-1.
On the mound for the Hawks, Casey DeLorenzo (East Greenwich, R.I.) took the loss, pitching 7.2 innings while allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts. Daniel McDonnell (Southampton, N.Y.) recorded the final out in relief.
For Endicott, Ben Gill earned the win in relief, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out two. Max Jarvie started the game, allowing one run over 4.0 innings, while Evan Scully closed it out with a scoreless ninth.
Roger Williams collected eight hits in the contest. Nick Dimaso (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) led the way with three hits, while Florio drove in the lone run. Luke Miele (Wellesley, Mass.), Noah Hester (Old Saybrook, Conn.), Jack Tubman (Bellingham, Mass.), and DeLorenzo each added a hit.
Endicott totaled nine hits in the game. Rickenbach led the way with three hits and two RBIs, while Walsh added two hits and an RBI. Benestad added a hit and two RBI.
Roger Williams (13-15, 6-7 CNE) will head to Tufts on Wednesday, Apr. 22, before hosting Coast Guard on Thursday, Apr. 23. The Hawks will return to CNE action on Saturday, Apr. 25 against Wentworth for Senior Day.
