Baseball: Hawks Fall to UMass Boston, 12-2

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team fell to UMass Boston, 12-2, in a non-conference matchup in Bristol.

The Beacons got on the board early, as they scored four runs in the top of the second inning. Ben Sherry scored on a throwing error, before another run scored on Dylan Agvent's fielder's choice to first base. Breon Parker dropped down a sacrifice bunt to bring the Beacons to 3-0. Nick Farnacci singled to center field to bring one more run around to lengthen their lead to 4-0.

UMass Boston tacked on four more runs in the fifth on an RBI singles from Brandon Gaer and a two RBI single from Ryan Slack. Chase Beloin hit an RBI sacrifice fly to right field to score Max Garner and bring the Beacons lead to 8-0.

The Beacons brought one more run around in the sixth, as Max Garner doubled to left center to score Brandon Gaer. UMass Boston brought their lead to 10-0 in the top of the seventh on an RBI single up the middle from Elliot Miles.

The Hawks finally responded in the bottom of the seventh, as Will Florio (San Jose, Calif.) reached on an error and scored Sam Arcieri (Westwood, N.J.). The Hawks brought another run around on a bases loaded balk from Beacons' pitcher Ben Cherry.

UMass Boston added two more runs in the top of the ninth to bring their lead to 12-2. The Hawks were unable to respond on the bottom of the frame.

Michael Williams (Peabody, Mass.) took the loss on the mound for the Hawks, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out six.

RWU had four hits in the contest from Noah Hester (Old Saybrook, Conn.), Luke Miele (Wellesley, Mass.), Arcieri, and Devin Driscoll (Portsmouth, N.H.). Florio had the only RBI of the game for the Hawks as he reached on an error by the Beacons' third basemen.

Ethan Nowak secured the win for the Beacons, throwing 6.1 innings with two runs on two hits and recording eight strikeouts. The Beacons were led by Slack, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Roger Williams (8-9, 2-2 CNE) will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 4 as they host Hartford on Paolino Field for a doubleheader.
