SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team was unable to recover after giving up four goals in the opening quarter, falling to Conference of New England (CNE) opponent Western New England (WNE), 11-4.
The Golden Bears outshot the Hawks 39-32, while also putting 21 shots on target to the Hawks' 16. RWU went 20-16 on clears with WNE converting 21 of their 25 attempts. The ground ball battle also went in favor of the Golden Bears, 44-25.
For WNE, Jacob Roy tallied four points with three goals and an assist, while Logan Proctor also had two goals and an assist. Thomas Labbe and Max Rudgers each had two points, with Rudgers splitting with a goal and assist, to Labbe's two goals.
Defensively, David Noel led the team with three caused turnovers and six ground balls, while Chance Starrett and Kai McDonald each had two caused turnovers.
The Hawks' offense was led by
Reece Moore (Marblehead, Mass.)
, who tallied two goals, while five Hawks each recorded a point in the contest. Five Hawks recorded a caused turnover, as
Harrison Steffens (Fairfield, Conn.)
, Kyle Zirn (Chester, N.H.)

Caden Mitchell (Shelton, Conn.) each had two ground balls.
WNE struck first as Roy tallied the opening goal on a man-up opportunity. Just 13 seconds later, Moore responded to level the score with 8:30 remaining. Western New England then ended the scoring, scoring three straight to take a 4-1 lead into the second frame.
After McKewon struck early in the second, the Golden Bears responded with three to end the half to take a 7-2 lead into the break. After earning a 10-2 lead into the final frame, the Hawks saw
Ethan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) and Moore score as they closed out the game.
