BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University women's tennis team earned a 7-0 victory over Clark University at the RWU Tennis Courts.
The Hawks swept all three doubles matches to secure the opening point before winning each of the six singles flights in straight sets.
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) and Claire Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) opened doubles competition with a 6-2 victory over Adeline Kontos and Julia Hynd at No. 3. Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.) and Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) secured the doubles point by defeating Larkin Gardinier and Amanda Keith, 6-1, at No. 2. Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) and Iris Gkrekou (Athens, Greece) completed the sweep with a 6-4 win over Olivia Shipley and Varvara Maltseva in the top flight.
Bache earned the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Keith at No. 3. Gkrekou followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Shipley at No. 2 before Abarca clinched the team victory by defeating Gardinier, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1.
Mancini added a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5, while Palmieri topped Kontos, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 4 flight. Scarlett Bernard (Westwood, Mass.) completed the shutout with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Hynd at No. 6.
Roger Williams opens Conference of New England play Tuesday, Sept. 15, when it hosts Gordon College at 4 p.m. at the RWU Tennis Courts.
