BRISTOL, R.I. — Roger Williams University first-year Iris Gkrekou (Athens, Greece) was named the Conference of New England Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Gkrekou posted a 2-0 record in singles and doubles competition in their lone match of the week, helping the Hawks earn a 7-0 victory over Clark University at the RWU Tennis Courts.

At No. 2 singles, Gkrekou defeated Olivia Shipley, 6-0, 6-2. She also partnered with Valentina Abarca at No. 1 doubles for a 6-4 victory over Shipley and Varvara Maltseva, completing the Hawks' doubles sweep.

The Hawks return to action Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they host Gordon College in their Conference of New England opener at 4 p.m. at the RWU Tennis Courts.
