WESTON, Mass. — The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team continued its undefeated start with a 7-0 Conference of New England victory over Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon at the Rivers School.
The Hawks improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the CNE, while the Rams fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Roger Williams swept all three doubles matches to earn the opening team point. Emma Blanchard (Dayville, Conn.) and Ashlyn Keating (Ludlow, Mass.) opened the afternoon with a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. Addie Lewis (Guilford, Conn.) and Meghan Hughes (Watertown, Conn.) clinched the point with a 6-0 win at No. 2, while Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) and Claire Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) completed the sweep with a 6-1 decision at the top spot.
The Hawks carried that momentum into singles play, winning each of the six flights.
Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.) earned the first singles point at No. 3 after Julia Lanczycki retired with Bache leading 6-1, 3-0. Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5.
Scarlett Bernard (Westwood, Mass.) secured the match-clinching point for Roger Williams, defeating Morgan Plitt 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Iris Gkrekou (Athens, Greece) added a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 before Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1. Mancini closed the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 4.
Roger Williams returns home Wednesday, Sept. 23, to host Western New England in a CNE match at 4 p.m. at the RWU Tennis Courts.
