BRISTOL, R.I. — Roger Williams University Women's Tennis player Iris Gkrekou (Athens, Greece) has been named the Conference of New England Rookie of the Week following an undefeated week for the Hawks.

The honor is Gkrekou's third CNE Rookie of the Week selection of the season. She was also named the conference's Player of the Week on Sept. 8.

Gkrekou finished the week 4-0 in singles and doubles, helping Roger Williams record a pair of 7-0 conference victories over Western New England and the University of New England.

Against Western New England, Gkrekou teamed with Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) for a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. She followed with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Malina Dinis at No. 2 singles as the Hawks swept the Golden Bears.

Gkrekou and Abarca earned another 6-1 victory at the top doubles flight against UNE. Gkrekou then defeated Nora Hill 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, providing the match-clinching point in Roger Williams' second shutout of the week.

Across the two singles matches, Gkrekou won all four sets and surrendered only three games. She and Abarca allowed just two games during their two doubles victories.

Gkrekou's performance helped Roger Williams improve to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in CNE competition.

The Hawks return to conference play Tuesday, Sept. 29, when they travel to face Endicott at 3 p.m. in Beverly, Massachusetts.
