Athletic Banquet

Close to the end of each academic year (usually the first week of May), the Athletics Department holds a banquet to recognize the accomplishments of all varsity teams, as well as the individual accomplishments of athletes, coaches, and staff. Student-athletes, athletics/recreation staff, and selected University administrators are invited at no cost.

Roger Williams University Athletics Awards

Nominations for each award will accepted during the month of April. The Athletic Communications Director will send out a form with a description for each award. Head Coaches, Athletic Trainers, Assistant Directors of Athletics, the Administrative Assistant, as well as all Athletics Department staff, and the Director of Athletics will have one vote for each award. It is important that those nominated ‘fit’ the description of the award.

The following is a list of department awards and honors recognized at the banquet:

    Sharon Castelli Award - Presented to the female and male athlete who most exemplify the qualities of sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork

    Rookie of the Year Award - Presented to the most outstanding female and male student-athlete in their first year of collegiate competition.

    Athlete of the Year Award - Presented to the most outstanding female and male student-athlete of the academic year

    RWU All-Academic Team - Recognizes sophomores and above who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and above.

    James R. Russo Award - Given to the female and male senior student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA.

    Jacqui Cohen Service Award - Presented to a student-athlete who distinguishes themselves in the area of community service.

    Raymond Cordeiro Award - Given to a senior student-athlete who has shown perseverance, commitment and leadership, and whose contribution to the team does not show up in box scores or statistics.

    Scott F. Viera Director of Athletics Award – Given to a senior student-athlete who has made tremendous contributions to Roger Williams Athletics and the Roger Williams University community despite experiencing adversity.
