Billy McNamara was a three sport varsity athlete in high school playing football, hockey, and lacrosse at the Rivers School in Weston Mass. before taking a post graduate year at Northfield Mount Hermon and lettering in water polo, hockey, and lacrosse. Garnered All-League and All New England honors in lacrosse and was selected to play in the New England East West All Star Game. Went on to play lacrosse at Wheaton College and was a three year captain. McNamara was named to the; Pilgrim League All-Conference Team three times, All-Academic twice, and All-ECAC once, and led the NCAA Division III in assists per game as a junior. He finished his career second all-time in program history in points with 218 and is the only Wheaton player to register over 100 goals and 100 assists (112g, 106a)
In the fall of 2011, while studying abroad in Bhutan McNamara taught physical education at the Drak Tscho School for children with physical and mental disabilities. Â He also taught lacrosse at the Jigme Losel Primary School before traveling for three months in the south of England playing, coaching, and developing the game of lacrosse.
McNamara was named Wheaton’s scholar athlete and received the Dean Sue Alexander Senior Athlete Award, which is presented to a male and female member of the graduating class who has made a significant contribution to the success of the Wheaton athletic program, including participating in intercollegiate athletics or intramural programs, displaying leadership ability and providing commitment and relevant committee work.Â
Has been a member of the Top Gun Fighting Clams club coaching staff since 2009 and also spent the spring of 2012 coaching at Proctor Academy... Has one brother - Johnny, who plays lacrosse at Loyola University.
