Colin Merrick joined the Roger Williams staff as an Assistant Coach of the Sailing team in 2007. A competitive sailor and coach, Merrick brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.

Merrick has a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Computer Engineering from Hobart and William Smith College. As a collegiate sailor, he earned All-American status three times. During his junior year, Merrick skippered the A Division boat to a second place finish at Dinghy Nationals.

After graduation, Merrick stayed at Hobart to serve as Assistant Coach of the sailing team from Fall 2001 through Spring 2004. During his final season, the Hobart team finished third at Dinghy Nationals and second at the Team Racing Championship.

In post-collegiate sailing, Merrick placed fourth at the 2007 US Olympic Trials in the Tornado Catamaran. Merrick also team raced competitively with team Silver Panda, Merrick earned first place at the ISAF Team Racing World Championships in 2007 and 2009. He is also the record-setting five-time winner of the Hinman Trophy, awarded to the top team at the U.S. Team Racing Championship. In 2007, Merrick was a finalist for US Sailing Rolex Yachtsman's of the Year.

Merrick is currently an engineer at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at URI. He resides in Portsmouth.
