The Roger Williams University Softball program is proud to bring back former Hawk Lauren Tierney ’13 as assistant coach for the 2014 season.

Tierney is no stranger to the program, having been the Hawks’ starting catcher for the past four seasons. She had never missed a pitch, let alone a game in her four seasons in the backstop for the Hawks.

She enjoyed her best season as a Hawk in her senior year with team in 2013. As team captain and the sole senior on the team, she helped guide the squad to its first Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship in over ten years. She received a slew of awards, including CCC Player of the Year, co-CCC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, and the RIAIAW Distinguished Athlete of the Year Award. She was named to the All-CCC First Team and the NFCA Division-III All-New England Second Team, and the ECAC All-Star Second Team.

A two-time team captain, Tierney finished in the top three of nearly every offensive category in the conference in 2013. Her .564 OBP not only led the CCC, but is the second-highest single-season total in RWU history. She led CCC in runs scored with 52. also tying the second-highest single-season amount in RWU history. She topped conference in slugging percentage (.599), stolen bases (20), doubles (13), walks (22), and total bases (82).
