Roy Williams brings more than three decades of competitive sailing coaching experience to Roger Williams University.
Williams served as the Varsity Sailing Coach at St. George’s School in Middletown, Rhode Island, from 1991 through 2024. During his tenure, he led teams to multiple New England championships and national titles while developing student-athletes in high-level interscholastic sailing.
Throughout his coaching career, Williams has specialized in fleet and team racing, boat handling, race tactics, starting, boat speed, regatta strategy and strategic decision-making. He has also coordinated practices, regatta preparation, team selection, travel and athlete development.
Williams has emphasized building a strong team culture centered on sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, preparation and personal growth, while helping generations of sailors compete at the highest levels of the sport.
