BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team suffered a 40-66 loss Thursday evening to Eastern Connecticut State University in its worst shooting performance of the young season.
The Hawks were held to a 27.1% field goal percentage in the game, including a 0-for-11 mark from three-point range in the game. In the second half, RWU shot only 6-of-30 for a 20 percent clip.
Eastern Connecticut State opened the game on a 13-3 run and never looked back. The Warriors spent most of the first half holding a double-digit lead, never allowing the Hawks to come closer than eight.
Ashley McFetridge's (Canton, Conn.) jumper with 1:29 to play in the first half put the Warriors up by a 33-21 score. The bucket marked a significant milestone in her career, as the basket gave her 1,001 career points at Eastern Connecticut State. She finished the game with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Leading 35-23 going into the second half, the Hawks were held scoreless over the first three and a half minutes, when Casey Anderson (Cohasset, Mass.) laid up a basket to make it a 25-40 game. A Jennifer Youngquist (Sandwich, Mass.) pull up cut the deficit to 12 at the 13:50 mark, but the Hawks were unable to come closer, as the team would be held to only nine more points over the remainder of the game.
Youngquist led the Hawks with ten points, while Anderson had six points with nine boards. Jackie Criss (Westwood, Mass.), who dropped 22 on 9-for-10 shooting in her last game, was held to four points, in addition to her four assists.
Roger Williams (2-4) will play its final home game of the semester Saturday at Mount Holyoke College, scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start. Eastern Connecticut State (3-1) will also play Mount Holyoke in its next game, hosting on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
