HARTFORD, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped Tuesday evening in non-conference match against Trinity College, as the Hawks fell 50-67.
The Hawks were hampered by turnovers throughout the game, committing 30 giveaways in the game leading to 29 Bantam points. Trinity grabbed an early lead in the game and never looked back.
Trinity began the game with five straight points before Jackie Criss (Westwood, Mass.) put the Hawks on the board with a three-pointer. RWU was able to come within one on a pair of free throws by Casey Anderson (Cohasset, Mass.), but an 11-2 Bantam run extended their lead to ten with under nine remaining in the period. RWU twice came within seven, but ultimately ended the half down by 12.
The second half started in favor of Trinity, whose 14-5 run in the opening five minutes extended the margin to 21. The Bantams led by as much as 25 before the Hawks could make it a 14-point game. Yet by that time, only 2:25 remained in the game, stopping the potential rally.
Heather Babin (Danvers, Mass.) could not extend her double-double streak, as she finished with seven points and ten rebounds. Paige Congdon (Westwood, Mass.) scored six with five rebounds, while Anderson had five points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Michelle Royals led the Bantams with 18 points, while teammate Claire Arnstein added 15. Kristine Fahey contributed nine points and four assists.
Roger Williams (5-12) returns to conference play Thursday at home with a 6:00 p.m. game against Endicott College.
