Men’s Soccer extends win streak to nine

BRISTOL, R.I.The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team continues its winning ways in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 1-0 win Wednesday evening against Gordon College, bringing the team's undefeated streak to nine straight.

Andres Daza (Farmington, Conn.) notched the game-winning goal at the 70:26 mark, as he was set up by a centered pass from #D.J. Hunter# (Middletown, Conn.) just outside the middle of the box. Hunter served the pass off of a short corner kick by #Billy Kissane (Glastonbury, Conn.), catching the Fighting Scots' defense off guard.

Despite the late goal for the Hawks, the Fighting Scots controlled the action for much of the early part of the game, most notably in the first half where Gordon outshot RWU 10-5. Hawk goalie Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) made six of his eight saves in that period.

In the second half, RWU began to pick up its paces offensively, taking 12 shots in the period to Gordon's six.

Plate earned his eighth shutout of the season in the win, while Gordon's freshman keeper Ryan Coil (Brentwood, Tenn.) stopped five shots in the game. In addition, junior forward Matt Horth (Akron, Ohio) fired five shots for the Fighting Scots, four of which were on goal.

Roger Williams (12-3-0, 10-3-0 TCCC) travels up to Springfield, Mass. on Saturday to take on Western New England College at 11:00 a.m., while Gordon (5-8-0, 4-5-0 TCCC) will be at Eastern Nazarene College Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
