WNEC snaps Men’s Soccer nine-game streak

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – A miscue by the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team allowed Western New England College to escape with 1-0 win in overtime Saturday afternoon.

The winning goal for the Golden Bears came on an own goal with 1:01 left in the first overtime period. Tony Rosa (Ludlow, Mass.) crossed the ball for WNEC from the left to the end line, where it deflected off a Hawk defender and into the goal for the game winner.

The Hawks held a slight 6-4 advantage in shots in the first half before WNEC turned it on offensively in the second frame, outshooting the Hawks 13-4 in the period.

Kyle Bak (Cumberland, R.I.) earned the win for the Golden Bears, playing 53:59 in relief of Dan Ruscigno (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) who started the game. Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) suffers the loss after making seven stops in the contest.

Roger Williams (12-4-0, 8-2-0 TCCC) has a 6:30 p.m. game at the University of New England Tuesday, while Western New England College (10-4-2, 7-2-1 TCCC) will be back in action tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at Keene State College.
