Volleyball Downs Gordon in TCCC Matchup

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. – On Tuesday evening the Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team defeated Gordon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup.  The Hawks came out firing on all cylinders winning the first two games.  The hosts were able to come back and win the third game, but the Hawks came back and got the fourth game to earn the victory three games to one.

The first and second games were won by the Hawks by scores of 25-13 and 25-11.  Gordon took the third 20-25 and RWU got their third win by a score of 25-17.  Rebekah Dion (Old Saybrook, Conn.) led the way for the Hawks with 17 kills and 37 attacks.  Senior Kristina Dolan (Glenmont, N.Y.) recorded 10 kills while teammates Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) and Caryn Lecca (Ludlow, Mass.) contributed with 20 and 17 assists respectively.  Jill Hurd (Sunapee, N.H.) had 23 digs and freshman Kelsee Loche (Millis, Mass.) had 11 of her own as well as four service aces.

Head Coach Bret Stothart was pleased with his team's performance saying, “We started out great and we really came ready to play. Unfortunately, we were a little bit lax in game three and Gordon played really well. We bounced back well in game four which was great to see and a credit to our team's character.”

Gordon drops to 6-20 on the year and 3-4 in the conference.  Roger Williams improves to 16-9 and 6-2 in the TCCC.

The volleyball team returns to action on Thursday as they will travel to Boston, Mass. for a game against the University of Massachusetts-Boston at 6:00 p.m.
