HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College men's soccer would battle visiting Roger Williams University to a 1-1 tie Wednesday afternoon in Henniker. With the tie the Pilgrims finish their season with an overall record of 8-8-2 and a conference record of 5-6-2. The Hawks move to 13-5-1 on the season and 9-3-1 in the conference and await the seedings for the TCCC Playoffs which will open play on Saturday.
The Hawks would get on the board first as Liam Isleib (Killingworth, Conn.) would receive a pass through the center from #D.J. Hunter# (Middletown, Conn.) and slip a shot in the lower right corner just 22:44 into the match.
The two teams would play through the remainder of the opening half scoreless as the Hawks would hold the slight 7-5 advantage in shots.
NEC would have a chance to get on the board early in the second half but a shot from Aaron Benedetti (Rehoboth, Mass.) would catch a piece of the post and bounce out preserving the Hawk lead.
The Pilgrims would continue to apply the offensive pressure in the second and it would pay off as Mike Tambone (Tewksbury, Mass.) would net his first goal of the season off a free kick from Peter Koskores (N. Andover, Mass.) in the 68th minute.
The two teams would fight pouring rain as the game would be called complete after 90 minutes of play knotted at 1-1.
In net for Roger Williams was Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) who finished with three saves. In net for NEC was Pat Harkin (Scituate, R.I.) who stopped six shots on net.
