Men’s Cross Country Captures Ninth TCCC Title

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Cross Country Team edged out the second place team from Gordon by six points to earn their ninth consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship with 33 points.  Three of the team members placed in the top four runners en route to a victory.

Freshman Mitch Leveille (North Kingstown, R.I.) led the way for the Hawks as he shared the lead the entire race, ending in second place overall with a time of 27:08.  Finishing second and third overall were Jonathan Ellis (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Thomas Maybury (East Longmeadow, Mass.) who finished with times of 27:33 and 27:38 respectively.  Finishing in 10th and scoring points towards the win was Andrew Gallant (Merrimac, Mass.) with a time of 28:02.  Putting in a particularly strong effort was Freshman Matt Carney (Canton Mass.) who hadn't been on varsity all year long.  He was the fifth and final scorer for the Hawks, running his best race and finishing in 14th overall with a time of 29:06 and sealing the deal for the Hawks.

Coach Sean Livingston had high praises for the effort that his team made, and the unity that they showed.  Livingston said after the race, “We executed the way we needed to execute to get the win.  It was nice to see them perform as a unit.  It was definitely a team win.”

Another bright spot on the day was when the TCCC Honors were given out.  Earning Rookie of the Year honors was Leveille.  Ellis, Maybury, and Gallant were also given All-Conference recognition for their performances during the season.

With the win the Hawks earned their ninth consecutive TCCC title.  Next up for the team is the ECAC Championships which will be hosted by Williams College on November 7th.
