DARTMOUTH, Mass. — The Roger Williams University men's cross country team competed across two races Saturday at the 53rd UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational, earning a pair of top-16 team finishes. The Hawks placed seventh out of 20 teams in the Navy Race while finishing 16th out of 32 teams in the Gold Race at the Coach Robert Dowd Course.
Campbell Navy Race
Chris Campbell (Avon, Conn.) led the Hawks in the Navy Race, crossing the finish line 23rd overall with a time of 26:45.60 to score 14 team points.
Henry McCormack (Melrose, Mass.) followed in 32nd at 27:03.64, scoring 19 points, while Grady Steele (Wolfeboro, N.H.) placed 50th at 27:36.24 for 34 points.
Samuel Matson (Hudson, N.H.) finished 66th in 28:11.53, contributing 49 points, and Ethan Barossi (Walpole, Mass.) rounded out the Hawks' scoring five in 74th at 28:27.97, adding 54 points.
The five scoring runners combined for 170 points, giving RWU a seventh-place finish out of 20 teams with an average time of 27:37.00.
Evans Leads Hawks in Gold Race
Nathan Evans (Lincoln, R.I.) led Roger Williams in the Gold Race, finishing 56th overall with a time of 25:59.73 and scoring 53 team points.
Cole Walker (Cumberland, R.I.) followed in 90th at 26:36.56, while Kyle Tarpy (Haverhill, Mass.) crossed in 95th at 26:40.64. Walker and Tarpy contributed 84 and 89 team points, respectively.
Andrew Frenette (Dighton, Mass.) finished 150th in 27:52.33, followed by Oliver Polster (Wakefield, Mass.) in 154th at 27:58.86 to complete the Hawks' scoring five.
RWU totaled 502 points in the Gold Race, finishing 16th out of 32 teams.
Hawks Bring Depth Across Two Fields
The Hawks received additional contributions throughout both fields. In the Navy Race, Gabriel Huff (Ledyard, Conn.) finished 76th in 28:33.64, followed by Colin Marsanico (Floral Park, N.Y.) in 88th at 28:59.11 and Kevin DeFeudis (Barnstable, Mass.) in 89th at 28:59.92.
Andrew McDowell (Durham, Conn.) placed 105th in 29:33.51, while Michael Walsh (Newbury, Mass.) finished 124th in 30:12.64 and Sean Rowland (Riverhead, N.Y.) crossed in 156th at 33:32.97.
In the Gold Race, Josh Soucy (Manchester, N.H.) also competed for the Hawks, finishing 161st overall in 28:08.54.

The Hawks return to action Friday, October 2, when they compete at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
