CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team split its season-opening doubleheader against Springfield College Saturday afternoon as the Hawks won the first game 3-2 and lost the second 15-5.
Brian Hurld (South Boston, Mass.) got the victory for RWU in the opener, giving up one earned run in six innings of play. Billy Dunn (Fiskdale, Mass.) pitched a hitless seventh to earn the save. Zach Porter (Middleboro, Mass.) went 2-for-3 in the game.
In the second game, James Lydon (Calverton, N.Y.) took the loss for the Hawks. Tony Verrochi (Norwood, Mass.) had two hits in the game including a home run. Matt Berte (Marlborough, Mass.) went 2-for-4 while Grant Bolin (Simsbury, Conn.) scored a pair of runs.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow against Wheaton College.
