Three first half goals lead Men’s Soccer to victory

BRISTOL, R.I.The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer Team scored three goals in the first half of play en route to a 4-0 victory over visiting Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon.

It took just 3:11 for the home team to get on the board as Josh Boyce (Peabody, Mass.) put in a rebound after a one-timer from Liam Isleib (Killingworth, Conn.) that was set up by a free kick taken by Billy Kissane (Glastonbury, Conn.).  Kissane would then add a tally of his own at the 23:57 mark on a free kick that he was able to bend around the wall of defenders and past the goalkeeper.  Nick Malatestinic (Bethel, Conn.) would notch the third goal at the 34:43 mark of the first half on a pass from Isleib.

In the second half, Chris Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.) would round out the scoring with the fourth goal for the Hawks at the 56:10 mark on a one-time chip shot set up by Boyce.

Anna Maria had several opportunities to score, but came up short due to the play of goaltender Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) who made eight saves in the contest, including a shot by Justin Hyland (Leicester, Mass.) at the 16:57 mark in which there was a rebound opportunity, but Plate was able to gather the ball and end the threat.  Eric Perkins (Peabody, Mass.) suffered the loss, making four saves in the contest against a strong Hawks offense.

Roger Williams (5-3-0, 1-1-0 TCCC) will travel to Newport, R.I. on Tuesday where they will be facing off against local conference rival Salve Regina University scheduled for 4:00 p.m.  Anna Maria (4-2-0, 1-1-0 TCCC) will be hosting New England College at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
