Box Score
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College and Roger Williams University Men's Soccer teams each scored goals early in the first half, but both teams held a 1-1 tie through two overtimes in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) match. The Gulls are now 4-9-2 (4-6-1 TCCC) and Hawks picks up their third draw in conference play and stand at 5-8-3 (5-3-3 TCCC).
Roger Williams appeared poised for a big offensive day as the visitors struck early after only 45 ticks had passed on the clock. The Hawks leader in points, freshman Daniel Caruso (Tewksbury, Mass.) crossed a ball from the right wing in the box directly to teammate Bradley MacDonald (Topsfield, Mass.) who finished with his left foot past the Gulls keeper. The goal gave MacDonald the team lead in season goals with four.
In the 21st minute, the Blue and Green evened the score with a goal by sophomore defender Kevin Gnecco (North Hampton, N.H.). Off a corner kick play, the initial header by Gulls senior Bryan Lee (Rockport, Mass.) was saved by a Hawks defender at the post but Gnecco was there to collect the rebound and beat the Roger Williams goalie. For Gnecco, it was his second goal of the season.
Both teams remained aggressive offensively, but no goals were scored for the rest of regulation.
There were six cautions issued in the game with Endicott receiving one yellow card and Roger Williams being issued four yellow cards and a red card.
In two overtime periods combined, Endicott attempted three shots while Roger Williams had two. The Hawks held a 15-13 edge in shots in the game overall.
Both keepers were effective between the posts as Endicott's Daniel Higgins (Kingstown, R.I.) made five saves and counterpart Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) made two stops. Each team had a team save.
The Blue and Green will next host TCCC rival Salve Regina on Saturday, October 23 at 2:30 p.m at Endicott Stadium. Roger Williams hosts Eastern Nazarene College in a conference match up also on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
