Baseball picked third in TCCC Preseason Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Roger Williams University Baseball team has been picked to finish in third place in the coaches' preseason Commonwealth Coast poll for the 2010 season, receiving 115 points.

Curry College has been picked as the favorite to win the 2010 Commonwealth Coast Conference baseball championship. Curry, the 2009 TCCC regular season champions, received eight of the 12 first-place votes in the 2010 TCCC preseason poll. Two-time defending champion Western New England received the remaining four first place votes and was selected as the runner-up, while Roger Williams was picked to finish third. Endicott was selected to finish fourth, while Wentworth was slotted in the fifth spot.

In 2009, RWU finished 21-20-1 and 12-9-1 in the TCCC. For the Hawks, senior captain and all-conference shortstop Grant Bolin (Simsbury, Conn.) returns. Bolin was a 2009 All-TCCC First Team selection after setting career bests in a number of offensive categories. The shortstop batted .361 with nine home runs and 30 RBI, all career highs. Fellow senior captain Ryan MacCarthy (Middleton, Mass.) also returns and has been the primary catcher for the Hawks for two of the past three seasons, with 97 starts in 105 games played. He currently holds the school record for career fielding percentage at .991, having committed only five errors in his three seasons as a Hawk.

Teams received 12 points for every first place vote received, 11 points for second place votes, 10 points for third place votes, down to one point for a last place vote. First place votes are shown in parentheses.
