Baseball falls to #4 Trinity College in final Spring Break game

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Roger Williams University Baseball team concluded their Spring Break trip Saturday with a loss to 7-0 to Trinity College, the fourth-ranked team in the nation.

 

James Ramsey (Belmont, Mass.) pitched six scoreless innings to lead Trinity College in the victory, scattering seven hits while striking out seven.

 

The Bantams scored three runs in the bottom of the first, capped off by a two-run double by Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.). The three-run lead would last over the next five innings until Trinity added three more in the sixth on a three-run homer by Brad Runowicz (Cheshire, Conn.).

 

Junior Zach Porter (Middleboro, Mass.) went 2-for-3 for RWU while freshman Matthew Roche (Bristol, Conn.) went 2-for-4. Senior co-captain Ryan MacCarthy (Middleton, Mass.) went 1-for-3 in the loss.

 

Sophomore pitcher Sean Scanlon (Lebanon, Conn.) took the loss, pitching five innings and giving up six runs with three strikeouts.

 

Trinity College's Runowicz went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI, while senior Kent Graham (Longmeadow, Mass.) went 2-for-5, and sophomore Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

 

The Hawks look to get back into action on Thursday in their 4:00 p.m. home opener against Nichols College.
