Henniker, N.H. – Roger Williams University baseball took two games from the New England College Pilgrims Sunday afternoon, winning game one 14-2 and capturing the 7-4 victory in game two. With the two wins the Hawks improve to 6-18 overall and 4-10 in TCCC play. The losses drop the Pilgrims to 4-21 on the season and 1-13 in conference play.
In game one the Hawks would explode in the opening two innings plating four runs in the first and eight runs in the second to go up 12-0. The Pilgrims would get lone runs in both the second and the fourth but Roger Williams would tack on runs of their own in the fourth and fifth cruising to the 14-2 victory.
Leading the way for Roger Williams was Zach Porter (Middleboro, Mass.) who was 3-for-4 at the plate with a homerun, three runs scored and two runs batted in. Roger Williams' Rob Zarthar (Dedham, Mass.) finished with three hits, including a homerun, two runs scored and three runs batted in, while Grant Bolin (Simsbury, Conn.) drove in three runs on two hits for the Hawks.
Picking up the win on the mound for Roger Williams was Ben O'Shea (Reading, Mass.) who pitched six innings allowing just two earned runs on five hits, while striking out eight.
Leading the way for NEC was Lucas Burgess (Bath. N.H.) who finished with two hits, including a homerun and two runs batted in.
In game two the Hawks would jump out to an early 3-0 but the Pilgrims would put up two runs in both the second and third inning grabbing their first lead of the afternoon. Roger Williams would regain the lead in the fourth thanks to a two-run homerun by Rob Zarthar and add a run in both the sixth and the seventh holding off the Pilgrims for the 7-4 victory.
Leading the way for Roger Williams was Trevor Manzi (Beverly, Mass.) who was 3-for-4 in game two with solo homerun, a double and two runs scored. Roger Williams' Zach Porter finished with two hits and Ryan MacCarthy (Middleton, Mass.) doubled for the Hawks.
Picking up the win on the mound for the Hawks was Logan Hartman (Fairfield, Conn.) who allowed no runs on two hits in relief.
Leading the way for NEC was Jimmy Lauzon (Manchester, N.H.) and Mike Caravella (Milford, N.H.) who each singled twice and had a run batted in.
