BRISTOL, R.I. – In the 2010 opener for both Babson College and the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team, the Beavers came away with the shutout win over the Hawks, defeating the Hawks 3-0.
The Beavers set the tone early, playing aggressive on the offensive end. By the first ten minutes of the game, Babson had already taken four shots and called for offsides three times.
Their strong effort paid off in the 26th minute, as Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) took a through ball from Ben Meyerson (South Nyack, N.Y.) and found the back of the net to give Babson a 1-0 lead. The Beavers held the one-goal advantage over the remainder of the half.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Joshua Danesh (Brookline, Mass.) made his way down the field and fired a shot to the right side, past a diving Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) for the Beavers' second goal of the game.
Down 0-2, the Hawks continued to fight their way onto the scoreboard, with freshman Jeff MacDonald (Auburn, Mass.) and sophomore Kamali Webson (Bellingham, Mass.) combining for four of the Hawks' five shots over the opening 25 minutes. Yet neither could give RWU its first score of the game.
Max Walker (Newton, Mass.) wrapped up the scoring for the Beavers in the 82nd minute, with a short chip off of a pass from Anderson.
Babson keeper Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) earned the shutout, making five saves in the game. Plate stopped three shots in the game for RWU in the loss.
Roger Williams (0-1) will host its annual Turfer Classic on Saturday, taking on William Paterson University at 12:00 p.m., while Babson (1-0) hosts Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
