BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Athletic Department is proud to announce the promotion of Josh King to Head Athletic Trainer and Louise Humphrey-Arruda to Assistant Athletic Trainer.
King's new duties at RWU will include overseeing the more-than-300 student-athletes, while supervising the two assistant athletic trainers on staff. Though his responsibilities still include tending to injuries and taping ankles, King will now and serve in an administrative role as well.
“Now I'll be able to put forth my own tactics and ideas when it comes to athletic training,” said King. “I hope to make a difference to the overall health of athletes at RWU.”
King has been with the athletic training staff at RWU since 2003, beginning as an assistant athletic trainer. Before starting at Roger Williams, King served as an assistant athletic trainer and undergraduate athletic training teacher at Salve Regina University, in addition to being the head athletic trainer at East Greenwich High School. King is excited about to work with the student-athletes here and is ready for the challenges that he will face in his new role.
Also moving up in the ranks in the Roger Williams Athletic Training Department is Louise Humphrey-Arruda, who has been promoted to assistant athletic trainer. During the 2009-10 athletic year, Humphrey-Arruda assisted the department as a part-time athletic trainer for the Hawks.
Humphrey-Arruda attended Northeastern University in Boston where she earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Athletic Training. She also attended Community College of Rhode Island where she earned an Associate's in Applied Science in Therapeutic Massage degree. Before coming to Roger Williams in 2009, Humphrey-Arruda has served in a few different positions, including a stint as a massage therapist at Care New England Wellness Center and Kent County Hospital from 2003 to 2004. In 2007, she joined the Bryant University Athletic Training Staff, where she was responsible for both the football and softball teams.
Humphrey-Arruda is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association, The Eastern Athletic Trainer's Association Student Delegation, The American Massage Therapy Association of Rhode Island, and the CCRI Advisory Board for Therapeutic Massage.
