Volleyball falls to regionally-ranked Conn. Col.

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College volleyball collected a 3-1 victory against Roger Williams in its home opener at Luce Field House Tuesday night.  The Camels, ranked #10 in New England defeated the sixth ranked Hawks 25-19, 16-25, 25-19, 25-19.

The Camels improve to 5-0 with the victory while the Hawks suffer just their second setback, moving to 8-2.

Sophomore Rachel Schroff (Palos Verdes, Calif.) erupted with 17 kills and two blocks to lead the Camels. Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.), the reigning New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) co-Player of the Week buried 18 kills for the winning side.

Senior setter Marissa DeMais (Hillsdale, N.J.) dished out 38 assists and Ally Terlizzi (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) anchored the defense with 20 digs.

Roger Williams University sophomore Kelsey Twarog (Barkhamstead, Conn.) finished with 12 kills in the match. Senior Rebekah Dion (Old Saybrook, Conn.) buried 10 kills with just one error on 24 attempts in her return to New London County.

Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.) added nine kills with just two errors on 23 attempts. Senior libero Jill Hurd (Sunapee, N.H.) chipped in with 19 digs and Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) distributed 35 assists for the Hawks.

The Camels will open conference play this Friday night with a 6:00 p.m. match versus Williams College in Luce Field House. Roger Williams will be in a tri-match with Wentworth Institute of Technology and Eastern Nazarene College in Boston on Saturday.
