Back-to-back wins for Men's Soccer

Box Score

PAXTON, Mass. – Freshman Brian Swindell (Milford, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the contest as the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team topped Anna Maria College, 1-0, during a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at AMCAT Field on Tuesday night.

The victory improves the Hawks' season record to 3-6-1 (3-1-1 TCCC), while the loss knocks the AMCATS to 0-8 (0-5 TCCC) on the year.

The Hawks wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as junior midfielder Josh Boyce (Peabody, Mass.) found Swindell with a nicely played cross. Swindell knocked home what eventually stood up as the game-winning goal in just the 7th minute of play.

The first half was played fairly even, but the Hawks controlled much of the action in the second period, outshooting the AMCATS 16-3 while holding a 6-0 advantage in corners during the half. Boyce and Swindell led the Hawks with five and four shots, respectively, while senior Joshua Bernardo (Peabody, Mass.) had a team-best two shots on goal for AMC. Senior Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) made three saves to earn the win in net for Roger Williams, while sophomore Mike Dandurand stopped four shots en route to taking the tough-luck loss for the AMCATS.

The Hawks take the field again on Saturday, traveling to face conference-foe New England College, while the AMCATS are back in action Thursday on the road against Mass.-Maritime at 7:00 p.m.
