Endicott bounced from CCC Tournament by Men’s Soccer

Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott saw its run into the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament cut short on Saturday, as they were eliminated 2-1 by the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team.

The fourth seeded Gulls see their record even at 8-8-3, their best record since 2005 and will wait to see if they get a bid to the ECAC tournament

Rich Pomeroy (Groton, Mass.) broke a 1-1 tie in the 69th minute with his first goal of the year for Roger Williams, whose record improves to 11-3-5.

Sophomore defender Bobby Durben (Stow, Mass.) scored the lone tally for the Gulls, tying the game at one apiece with an unbelievable strike in the 21st minute, his third of the season. The Hawks had taken the lead on an own goal by the Gulls just three minutes earlier before Durben and Endicott earned a throw-in deep in Roger Williams' territory.  After Hawks' goalkeeper Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.) punched away the long throw, Durben uncorked a laser of a shot from a deep angle, which went rocketing into the back of the net.

Endicott, who fired ten shots, three of them on goal, was not without their chances in the second half. Alex Jorge had two great opportunities to net his sixth goal of the season, but once fired just wide into the side netting of the goal and another time had a brilliant header cleared off of the line by Roger Williams' back Kamali Webson (Bellingham, Mass.).

Junior Kevin Gnecco (North Hampton, N.H.) had probably the best chance of the half for Endicott, when his free kick from twenty-five yards out glanced off of Pelloso's finger-tips and off of the crossbar before bouncing just over the goal.

Pelloso made one stop in net for the Hawks, while freshman goalie Aaron Kanter (Medfield, Mass.) made six saves for the Gulls. The visitors took 17 shots, eight of them on frame, and each team earned four kicks from the corner flag.

The Hawks advance to the semifinals on Tuesday, where they will travel to face the top seed in the tournament, Western New England, who beat University of New England 1-0.
