Men’s Soccer ties with Endicott

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. – The #21st nationally-ranked Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team played its third straight double overtime game Saturday, this time taking Endicott College to a 0-0 tie.

The tie brings the Hawks' record to 9-1-3 on the season and 3-0-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. It also extends the Hawks' winless streak to three games after opening the year winning nine of their first ten games. Endicott moves to 3-6-3 overall (1-2-2 CCC).

The first half of the game saw the teams struggle to get any momentum going offensively. With strong defense for both teams, Roger Williams and Endicott combined for only seven shots in the first half.

The offensive pace began to pick up in the second half, with 19 shots taken between both teams in the period. Roger Williams had a few opportunities to notch a goal on the board, including a shot by Pedro Hernandez (Pawtucket, R.I.) in the 55th minute that just missed wide left. In the 70th minute, Gull keeper Aaron Kanter (Medfield, Mass.) snagged a Liam Isleib (Killingworth, Conn.) pass out of the air before Hernandez could get a head on it.

A deep free kick by Ryan D'Amico (Marlborough, Conn.) was headed out by Kamali Webson in the 85th minute to keep a potential score off the board, sending the game into OT.

In the first OT, the best opportunity for a game-winner came in the 97th minute on a through-ball up the middle. Yet Michael MacLeay (Epping, N.H.) made a good clear on the ball to keep the Hawks off the board.

The second OT saw the Hawks make a strong rally in the final minutes, having a pair of crosses and a long pass in the top of the box grabbed snatched out of the air by Kanter. Kanter would later snag the loose ball in the box off of a corner kick in the final minute to clinch the tie.

Kanter stopped four shots in the game for Endicott, while Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.) also made four saves.

Roger Williams heads to Western New England while Endicott will host Eastern Nazarene, both games on Wednesday.
