ORLANDO, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team rolled off its third doubleheader split in as many days on Monday, with a 9-6 win over Bowdoin College followed by a close 1-2 loss in eight innings.
Josh Orosz (Fairfield, Conn.) earned the victory in the first game, allowing only two runs in 4.1 innings of work. Chris Anderson pitched the final 1.1 innings of the contest to pick up the save, striking out three batters in the process. John Oppenhimer (Westport, Conn.) finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Tony Trafecanty (Franklin, Mass.) also had two hits in three at bats, finishing with three RBI and a run scored.
In the second game, Eric Diffily (North Reading, Mass.) made the start for the Hawks, tossing four innings and allowing only one run on three hits in his appearance. Chris Comeau (Southbury, Conn.) came in and pitched two innings of scoreless relief, but the Polar Bears got the game winning run in the top of the eighth. Offensively, the Hawks managed five hits in the game, with Trevor Manzi (Beverly, Mass.) notching a double in his only at-bat of the game. Matt Swensen (Charlton, Mass.) went 1-for-3, knocking in the Hawks' only run of the game.
Roger Williams (3-3) takes the next two days off before taking on Worcester State College Thursday in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
