BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball claimed the 2011 Roger Williams University Invitational Championship after a perfect 3-0 day on Saturday, with a 3-2 win over Rivier College and 3-1 wins over NYU-Polytechnic and the University of New England.
The Hawks opened the day with a 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 25-27, 15-12 over Rivier College, followed by a 25-15, 20-25, 25-21, 25-21 against NYU-Polytechnic. With the win against NYU-Poly, Head Coach Rob Mullowney earned his 100th career coaching victory. He and the team would conclude the sweep with a 25-9, 17-25, 25-12, 25-13.
Senior Marybeth Torpey (Quincy, Mass.) finished the day with 20 kills, 39 digs, and a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore teammate Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.) was named the Tournament MVP after finishing the day with 41 kills and seven solo blocks.
Roger Williams (7-2) will host Connecticut College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
