Men’s Soccer grabs fifth straight

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team extended its winning streak to five games with a 2-1 victory over Nichols College Saturday afternoon. The Hawks move to 6-0-1 and 2-0-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, while Nichols falls to 3-2-1 and 0-1-1 in the CCC.

Michael Perry (Plainville, Mass.) gave the Bison an early 1-0 lead in the first half, taking advantage of a loose ball in the box. Scott Coderre (Thompson, Conn.) fired a shot in the 28th minute at Hawk keeper Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.), who made a strong save. Yet the ball got away from Pelloso, which Perry found and was able to put in to put Nichols on top.

Roger Williams would answer back in the 38th minute, with Andrew Carlson (Ridgefield, Conn.) knotting the game at one. Carlson was fed a long pass by Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine) on the left side and place a shot in the right corner to tie the game.

The Hawks would take the lead in the second half on a goal by Liam Isleib (Killingworth, Conn.) in the 58th minute. Josh Boyce (Peabody, Mass.) served a cross over the box to Isleib, who put in the eventual game winner in the corner of the net.

Nichols had a chance to tie the game in the 80th minute, with Jonathan Silva (Framingham, Mass.) making a run at a loose ball on the left side box. Yet Pelloso was able to corral the ball before Silva was able to make a play on the ball.

Pelloso made six saves on the day for the Hawks in the win, while Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.) stopped ten shots in the loss.

Roger Williams takes on MIT Wednesday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. while Nichols hosts Anna Maria College Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
