Hoxsie nets hat trick in win for Men’s Soccer

Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Sophomore Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine) scored three times to lead the undefeated Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team to a 4-1 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match played Saturday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The Hawks, ranked fourth in New England in the most recent NSCAA regional poll, improve to 8-0-1 overall (3-0 CCC). UNE slips to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Hoxsie provided the visitors with an early 2-0 advantage, notching goals in the 15th minute and 18th minute to give the Hawks enough scoring for the afternoon. His first tally came after he spun around on his knee in front and delivered a left-footed shot high into the left corner. Hoxie's second marker came on a set piece after junior Andres Daza (Farmington, Conn.) brought down a service by junior Billy Kissane (Glastonbury, Conn.).

The Nor'easters had a chance to cut the deficit in half at the 37:04 mark, but RWU sophomore keeper Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.) stopped a penalty kick attempt by senior Kiel Hiller (Galloway, N.J.).

Hiller was not to be denied, however, as he responded with his team-leading fifth goal just 29 seconds later. Sophomore Drazen Smith (Bradford, Vt.) set up the score to draw Big Blue within one before intermission.

Hoxsie completed his three-goal afternoon when he converted a penalty kick in the 54th minute for his team-best ninth goal of the season.

The Hawks concluded their scoring in the 73rd minute on a goal by Daniel Caruso (Tewksbury, Mass.). Hoxsie slipped a pass to Caruso from the right sideline and the sophomore directed a low shot inside the left goal post.

Pelloso needed four saves to record the victory for Roger Williams, which will travel to non-conference foe Wheaton College on Wednesday (4 p.m.).

First-year netminder Aidan McParland (Brockville, Ontario) had a busy day for the Nor'easters, recording 10 stops.

Big Blue returns to action Tuesday with a non-league contest at New England College. Start time is slated for 4 p.m.
