NORTON, Mass. – Sophomore Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine) scored his tenth goal of the season with 2:17 remaining in regulation to lift the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team to a 2-1 win over Wheaton College in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Keefe Field.

Sophomore Daniel Caruso (Tewksbury, Mass.) also scored for the Hawks (9-0-1), who remain perfect on the season and earn their first-ever win over the Lyons (3-5-2) in 16 tries (1-12-3).

With the match tied at two entering the waning moments of regulation, Caruso slid a pass to Hoxsie just outside the box, and he blasted a shot off the left post and into the back of the net. The goal was his fifth game-winner of the season.

The Hawks took advantage of a miscue by the Lyons to take a 1-0 lead 16:52 into the match. A miscommunication between Wheaton freshman goalkeeper Jeff Paer (Fair Lawn, N.J.) and a Wheaton back allowed Caruso to steal the ball and shoot into the open net.

The Lyons evened the score a few minutes later on freshman Travis Blair's (Hastings, N.Y.) fourth marker of the season. Junior and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) leading scorer Will Nesbitt (Holliston, Mass.) started the play with a pass over to senior Pablo Mena (San Salvador, El Salvador) on the left side of the field. Mena then sent a pass to a streaking Blair, who placed a low shot past Hawks sophomore goalkeeper Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.) at 22:32.

Roger Williams held an 11-3 edge in shots through the first 45 minutes of action before the Lyons picked up the tempo on offense and edged the Hawks 11-6 in the second half, bringing the final total to 17-14 in favor of the visitors.

Pelloso recorded four saves to run his record to 9-0-1 while Paer stopped seven shots to move to 1-2-0. Wheaton doubled up the Hawks on corner kicks, holding a 6-3 edge. Blair and Nesbitt led Wheaton with two shots on goal apiece.

The Lyons return to action on Saturday when they host NEWMAC rival Clark at 1 p.m. The Hawks host Curry Saturday at 1 p.m.
